Hey guys. So the weirdest, most unfortunate thing happened to me this morning. I got up bright and early to head to the gym and do some errands. I woke up with a sore throat, but otherwise feeling pretty good (just the expected tired-ness that is bound to come when your alarm goes off before you’re ready). I prepared my usual cup of tea, and had two brown rice cakes topped with almond butter and apple butter.
I got to the gym for a Total Body class and halfway through the warm-up started to feel reeaallly tired. I thought - OK, whatever, I’m just tired – ..Then I started to feel extremely dizzy, so I stepped outside of the class for some air since I was towards the back anyway. After sitting with my head between my legs for a minute, I got up and hopped back into class. At this point we were starting our weight training. I did about 4 shoulder presses with my medium weights before feeling COMPLETELY feeble and dizzy. So I headed out AGAIN to try to stable myself. At that point I decided that leaving a class twice for being dizzy meant that it was time to throw in the towel. So disappointing because I was 1) looking forward to a workout after a weekend off and 2) planning the rest of my day around that class.
I still have no idea what is/was wrong with me..I was hydrated and had a filling breakfast..but I came home, laid down for quite some time and feel a little better. I still have a headache, but I’m going to go out for a walk and some coffee (that is my preferred headache cure) and attempt my errands again. Goooood thing I have today off from work; I just wish all of my day wasn’t wasted feeling sick on the couch!
The moral of the story here people - If something doesn’t feel right, it’s best not to push it. Things could have ended up a lot worse if I hadn’t realized that continuing my workout was a bad idea.
Has anything similar to this ever happened to you? Have you ever cut a workout short for any reason?
Anyway, I am scarfing down delicious chocolate rice cakes topped with cottage cheese and pom seeds right now, and then heading out for attempt #2. Wish me luck!
