Hopefully some of you will be dining out this weekend with friends or family, my reviews are to help you stay clean and healthy while being out in the real world.

Last night we went out to dinner with some new friends, as we couldn’t meet until quite late, we decided to stay local and go to New Haven.  I personally am not a big fan of New Haven simply for the lack of parking and abundance of tickets I always seem to get!  But I was pleasantly surpised last night.  Close on street parking to start then as we approached the alley where the entrance is, the beautiful aroma of fresh basil was looming in the air.  There’s no better indicator of a good restaurant then getting hit with wonderful scents as you walk through the door.  If there was basil cologne I would buy it for Mark, silly I know.

So here’s the dish; we have been to this restaurant when it was Dim Sum, I believed to be owned by the same person.  That was always good, so why not try this?  It’s in the rear of the main restaurant, Zinc.  Being in the rear has its advantages, there’s a very nice patio in the back that overlooks a courtyard shared by other local businesses.

The menu is awesome!  So awesome and fresh that I let everyone else at the table order for us, something I never do.  The food was ordered as shared plates for the table, my favorite way to eat.  The ingredients are local and there is a little bit of CT knowledge on the menu.  Now to what we had:

White Bean Salad w/roasted tomatoes, basil pesto, roasted radicchio, pearl mozzarella

Black Pepper Calamari w/pickled jalepenos (nice suprise, it wasn’t fried)

Sliced Avocado w/toasted almonds, balsamic drizzle & olive oil

Spicy Salami w/fresh ricotta & olive oil (I passed on this one, but it looked amazing)

Getting Figgy with It Pizza w/figs, speck, goat cheese, caramelized onions, balsamic & arugula

Tomato Pizza w/tomatoes, roasted garlic, basil pesto, mozzarella, fontina and herbed baby greens

The pizzas were super thin, just the way I like them.  No guilt here, just a great time.  The ambiance is inviting, the dress code is casual and the pricing is modest ranging from $3.95-$14.95

A definite two fit thumbs up!!!  I hope you go, let me know what you think.  I’m sorry I don’t have a pic to post, it was a “no cell phone night” :)  But all the more reason for you to try it yourself.
