Alright, it’s time for our new series – The FGD Dish of the Week.  I’ve  lived on the UES for the past 5 1/2 years, and although I adore this neighborhood, the dining pickin’s are pretty slim.  This neighborhood sticks to what is tried and true – of course a few cute cafes open up every now and then, but for the most part I make an effort to take one afternoon a week to get downtown, shop, dine, adventure and explore.  Can’t let this relationship with NYC get stale!

Furthermore, grabbing food downtown does not equal tons of dollars.  Case in point – Jack’s Wife Freda.  Not only is this spot easy on the wallet, but it’s just as good as they say! The dishes are simple and delicious, the space is tiny and cozy, and the staff is super chill and friendly.

I cannot help but get this dish every time I’ve come here.  There are tons of yummy things on the menu, but this is one that I cannot easily duplicate at home (orrrr I’m just really lazy), so I always treat myself to this Mustard Seed Crusted Tofu with Spaghetti Squash.  Delicious, healthy and just filling enough (oh, and for only $13.00, I think you should give this dish a whirl!  Both of Jack’s locations are convenient to subways and Soho’s best stores too, making this a can’t-miss.

And if you’re feeling dangerous, order some chocolate cake afterwards :)
