First of all, I am kinda hurtin’ today.  I did some drinking last night – what can I say? I’m young and I don’t always have my sh*t together ;) When we’re hungover (and it’s bound to happen to everybody), a greasy Ham/Bacon egg and cheese sounds like the best thing ever.  Maybe something even greasier will appetize you.  Once you’re eating clean for a while, you don’t even crave the grease.  This was my clean hangover meal today.

 Canadian Bacon & Egg whites on an Ezekial english muffin.  One side has spinach (I ran out), and the other side has a SMIDGEON of ketchup.  Yes I am a bad girl, but there are worse things I could do.  Paired this with a jumbo Gatorade and I am good to go.

ANYWAY, let’s talk about the grocery store.  I can’t stress enough how important it is to grocery shop.  It sets the tone for the next week of your life and enables you the satisfaction of already knowing that you’re going to be healthy and feeling a flatter tummy.  Being prepared is what it’s all about.  Not grocery shopping means we’re stopping for fast food when we’re on lunch break and starved, which equates to bloating and spending unnecessary money.

I feel that if you don’t grocery shop, you’re 1) Possibly scared to spend so much money at one time, or 2) Downright lazy ;)

For myself, moving to the city was what catapulted my realization that I would have to learn to grocery shop. If I stopped for food every time I needed a meal I would have been broke within 3 days.  I say learn to grocery shop because it does need to be a calculated plan (Remember that term, grocery list?)  I had to learn to buy well balanced meals and snacks so that I would stay full longer and my food would last the week. Going to the store and picking up CRAP is just as bad as the fast food pit-stop.  Just walking in the door shouldn’t make you feel better – What should make you feel better is when you’re on your way out and feeling proud that you stuck to the list and steered clear of the bakery section.

I shop for myself, so fortunately for me I do not have to take anyone else’s eating habits into consideration.  If this is not the case for you, make your roommate or relative do this with you.  Make a list at home together, go to the store together, and COMMIT to eating healthy together.  No one wants to be a quitter.

Organic Valley 1% Choc Milk (always have one leaving the gym)

Kashi Go-Lean honey almond flax cereal (Loooove Kashi)

Al Fresco Chicken Sausage (once in a blue ill buy these)

100% Liquid Egg Whites

Unsweetened Apple Sauce

Apple Butter

Almond Butter

Organic Chunky Peanut Butter

Sabra Spinach Artichoke Hummus (Try every flavor)

Carrots, Mushrooms, Tomatoes, Green Peppers (stock UP on veggies)

Apples, Bananas, Blueberries (same with fruit)

Quaker’s Brown Rice/Caramel Corn rice cakes

Non-fat Cottage Cheese

Lemon-Lime Perrier

4 Boneless Chicken Breasts

Brown Rice

Smoked Salmon Filet

Ezekial Bread, English Muffins

When you grocery shop, be sure to hit up the produce and dairy aisles first.  These are usually the outer parameters of the market.  Once you finish up there you may not have much room for other stuff in your basket! Jeez, would ya look at that?
