Ohhhhhhhkay.  So we are officially in Holiday mode, and frothy holiday beverages are aplenty.  Here’s the problem – some of those drinks contain up to 30% of the fat we should be consuming for the WHOLE DAY.  In ONE DRINK.  It’s a toughie because they are all so delicious.  There are some changes we can make to the order, but your Gingerbread Latte – no matter how you swing it – is still just a treat, and should not be consumed once a day.  Let’s go through some of our favorites.

Starbucks Caramel Macchiato:

300 Calories

9g Fat

35g Sugars

Do these numbers alarm you? They should.  They are all around far, far too high for just one beverage.

Enjoy a variation of this drink guilt-free by ordering a Skinny version.

Skinny Caramel Macchiato:

140 Calories

1g Fat

Made with non-fat milk, sugar-free syrup

Starbucks Gingerbread Latte:

320 Calories

13g Fat

37 Sugars

Skinny Gingerbread Latte:

80 Calories

10 Sugars

Dunkin Donuts Caramel Mocha Latte w/ Milk (Medium)

330 Calories

50 sugars

….50 sugars!!! 330 Calories!!! This is one of my favorite lattes to order, and by making a few tweaks I can still have a flavored Latte as a treat from time to time.

Caramel Latte w/ Skim Milk and 1 pump Caramel

120 Calories

15g Sugar

56% Fewer Calories!

Essentially guilt-free!

There’s no reason why we shouldn’t be able to enjoy seasonal drinks while they’re around – just be mindful of what you’re consuming.  Wouldn’t it be a terrible waste if you bust your ass at the gym and then drink the calories back? And not even catch a buzz while you’re at it? (ha ha)

Happy Holidays!
