OMG, this isn’t just a fab find, this is an obsession!  But, I’ll get to that in a bit.

It all started 2 weeks ago when I visited Chef’s Emporium, a local kitchen equipment store, to grab something for the shop.  It was then that I happened upon two lovely young women doing a juicing demonstration.  They had samples out to encourage shoppers to join them in a complete 3 hour demonstration they would be hosting the following week.

I noticed that they were using a juicer and a Vitamix.  We all know I love my Vitamix, so I figured, why not sign up to learn a little bit more about it.

I have to hand it to the girls of Wolf Zen, the class was great!  I wasn’t sure I’d be able to stay put for 3 hours, but they did a great job of intertwining information on a raw diet, as well as demonstrating both the Vitamix and the Breville juicer.  The class was quite interactive and very informative.  Unfortunately for them, I had a front row seat and plenty to say.  They both answered me with grace and an abundance of concise information.

We were all provided a workbook that was full of the many reasons we should incorporate juicing as well as plenty of recipes, all of which we tried.  There was no bad recipe.  I liked that a lot of the recipes were out of the box incorporating chili peppers, cilantro, ginger and some other really cool ingredients.

I can’t say enough about the class.  All throughout the evening I was thinking, this is an awesome addition to my clean lifestyle.  Why wouldn’t I incorporate it?  I may not be going totally raw or only juicing for weeks on end, but I could definitely see myself adding this to my diet.  We all need things to spruce up our diet and for this time of year when fresh produce is in abundance, it completely hit the spot!

At the end of the class, the girls gave us a tonic.  It’s a tea blend with a bunch of amazing herbs they’ve mixed together and packaged for our convenience.  It was delish, sort of along the lines of a chai tea.  At home you brew the tea, blend in the herbs, make a few additions such as a natural sweetener if needed and coconut oil.  Can I say hooked??? Again, I know I should have coconut oil on a daily basis, but I don’t.  This is a great way to sneak it into my diet.  Yes, I bought two packages.  It’s so good that now I’m out and I will definitely get more.

Before I left, I knew I had to have a juicer to add to my kitchen arsenal.  I purchased the one they used in the demonstration, the Breville Juicer Compact for $99.99, yeah really let’s just say $100.  I believe this is their base model, with other models that range in complexity and pricing up to $500.  My thought was this one got the job done and I spent the farm on the Vitamix.  I am not disappointed.  After using it for 2 weeks, I don’t think I need anything else, this one is perfect for us.  This model fits perfectly on the kitchen counter, not taking up too much counter space and is relatively easy to clean.

Okay, so now we’re home.  The juicer sat on the counter for a day and then Chloe’ hit it up.  Not bad.  Since Chloe’ and Mark are like my kitchen crutches, it wasn’t until Chloe’ went on vacation last week that the juicer and I became one :)   HOOKED would be an understatement.  Ava is home recuperating this week and can’t eat much, this was the perfect time to figure it out.

Eh, my first few attempts were lame to say the least.  Drinkable, but nothing to write home about.  It’s not true that you can’t screw up a juice, but if you have a decent palate, you can definitely listen to it and adjust accordingly.

Some things I learned from the demonstration:  Fibrous vegetables such as kale don’t have much water in them, but apples, pears, celery, cucumbers and carrots do.  Good to know, that would be why my green shakes have been so thick.  I also learned that apples can cut the bitterness of celery and a little citrus is a great addition to both fruit and vegetable drinks.  Rethinking this new knowledge, I started to refine my juices.

First one a day, then two a day, yesterday was 3!  I would say I’m a juicing master now.  Each drink is better than the last.  And hello bonus, my belly is flat!

Once I got the hang of it, I actually started to enjoy making them and was no longer afraid of the machine.  I don’t know how many juices I’ll continue to drink daily, but I know juicing will remain part of my clean diet.

Follow Wolf Zen on facebook for amazing raw recipes and upcoming events.  I will certainly be attending another as soon as my schedule permits.  They were smart to sample out a taste of raw cheesecake for their next event, very good.  The test, I brought it home to Ava, the cheesecake queen.  Ha, she had no idea it wasn’t traditional.  I’d say that’s worth a try in the future.
